Ron Paul Campaign Denies Rick Perry Web Redirect

12.08.2011 · Posted in Expodomain (English)

(NewsCore) – Ron Paul’s campaign said Wednesday it was not behind a website switcheroo in which people visiting rickperry.com were sent to Paul’s homepage instead.

Beginning on Tuesday night, rickperry.com began redirecting users to the website of Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s Republican colleague and nomination rival, Texas Rep. Ron Paul — ronpaul2012.com.

“The Paul campaign does not have anything to do with this and does not appreciate this sort of thing,” Paul campaign spokesman Gary Howard told National Journal. “We are working now to resolve the issue.”

Perry’s official website is rickperry.org. By late Wednesday the rickperry.com address was no longer sending users to Paul’s website, but was instead showing a series of ads.

According to the tech blog Domain Name Wire, the rickperry.com domain name expired in May last year while Perry was in the middle of the race to retain his position as Texas governor. Prior to that time the rickperry.com address was forwarding visitors to the rickperry.org website.

According to Domain Name Wire, someone from Mexico then paid $2,100 for the URL in an expired domain auction.

It is unknown who exactly owns the rickperry.com domain name now.

Perry’s campaign spokesman told Reuters he was confident people who had visited the rickperry.com site would not have confused Perry with Paul.

“We trust voters to know the difference,” communications director Ray Sullivan said.

Meanwhile, with his campaign website being housed at newt.org, Republican presidential frontrunner Newt Gingrich might like to snap up the newtgingrich.com domain name.

Visiting the site currently gives a message stating, “This domain is for sale.”
